This is how I got into Evanescence:
Evanescence actually came to me. At first I thought Evanescence was a dark gothic type group with songs about death and suicide. Everywhere I went, from walmart to MTV this evanescence group was everywhere. I finally decided to give it a try and got a copy of Fallen. Listening to the songs for the very first time, and comprehending the lyrics, I cannot imagine any other person or group that can captivate the mind so strongly and speak about this world so truly. Though not many people think I'm serious, Evanescence changed my views upon my life and everything around me.

Additionally, I'd like to mention to other fans:
Please do not think of Evanescence as a gothic band. After all what is gothic to you, do you really know? If you were stubborn like me, just give it a chance. This band has composed the greatest songs with mind blowing lyrics, and some really kick ass music! But its important to look beyond the "beat" and take in the message of the song. That is why i don't like any rap songs, they have no meaning, they don't speak about life and this world. All it is about is basically, "i luv u and u luv me" the same crap you get from any other songs, from country to classical, and alot of rock (not all). Some other great music (though none top evanescence), are from groups like Smile Empty Soul and Ataris. All I am saying is give all music a chance and look for its meaning.
