This is how I got into Evanescence:
Well, it's a long story. I was switching channels and I suddenly saw this flash of a young lady singing. I'm like "I've seen her somewhere." Then I remember I saw her in a magazine. That lady was Amy Lee. I checked out Evanescence's review in the earlier-mentioned mag, and I'm like "cool". Then I saw a glimpse of My Immortal's video, just the last ten seconds or something, and I heard just a bit of the piano and I'm like "whoa! They play the piano!" I hadn't even heard one single song of theirs, and I went out and bought the CD. Within a few days, I was an Evanescence nut.
Additionally, I'd like to mention to other fans:
Make sure you listen to their tracks from Origin and Whisper EP too. Those are sure to leave you spellbound.
