While I've only been a Push Stars fan for about 5 months now (had to find new bands in the wake of Ben Folds Five), this is easily my favorite song, and album. I've been fortunate enough to have seen them once (they're coming back, but it's a 21+ show... how lame is that?), but was disappointed they drew heavily from "After the Party" Tilt-a-whirl Girl? FANTASTIC!!! The lyrics are average for a Push Stars tune, but the melody is brilliant. It's reminiscent of many a Counting Crows song where Adam's melodies reach almost spiritual levels. (Even though Adam is the greatest lyricist of this generation, In my humble opinion, the Push Stars write better pop songs). While not as sexy as "Wild Irish Rose," or lacking the majesty of "One Summer Day," "Tilt-a-Whirl Girl" has a sense of grace, thrill, and intimacy that elludes most modern music, and certainly anything heard on commercial radio. That's all I have to say about that. |
