My Jewel Story:
I heard Jewel for the first time on WDST out of Woodstock, NY during the summer of '94 (I think). They were playing "Who Will Save your Soul" long before anyone else did. I bought her CD not long after hearing "You Were Meant for Me" for the first time. It took a while, but her album grew on me...and grew...and grew...etc. I fell in love with her music, her voice, her beautiful face, so on and so forth.

During September of last year, one of my students (I'm a science teacher) told me that Jewel would be playing at Marist College. The show was the very next day. I decided I would drive to Marist and buy tickets immediately after school got out. Word spread during the day, and 2 students asked me to drive them to the show. So I did. There had to be 12 or so other students at the show as well. One of them was the daughter of the pres of Marist College. Here was my opportunity to get backstage and meet her. All I wanted to do was tell her how much I loved her music, and ask her out for a cup of coffee after the show. I figured, what the heck? If she said Yes, then I'd be in heaven. If she said No, then I could at least say that I asked Jewel out:) Needless to say, I never got the opportunity. She was signing posters and ticket stubbs after the show, but I didn't get to do that either. I was the next one to get something signed, but her bodyguards took her away. Oh well...I'll get my chance one day!!
Comments:
I've never been such a big fan of anyone in my whole life. The things I like most about Jewel are 1) her looks (surprise!) 2) Her dynamic voice. She can sing so many different ways, from soft and sweet, to powerfully sad, to small and innocent to warm and loving. She has the kind of voice I'd love to wake up to every morning and come home to every evening. 3) Her songs...of course. No one can paint pictures and tell stories like she can. Her songs make a big guy like me want to cry...
